Make sure to get fit for good running shoes. Investing in the right shoes will save you from unnecessary injury down the line.
Always run on sidewalks when they are available. If none are available, run against traffic.
If you run with music, turn volume down and keep one head phone out. It is very important to be aware of your surroundings.
Don’t worry about pace. Slow it down and be patient.
Remember rest days are just as important as training days. Allow a day of rest in between your runs.
Ask for advice. If there is one thing that all runners have in common, it’s that they actually like to talk about running! No question is too silly. Keep in mind every new runner has been there at one point too.
Have fun! If you are a social person, look for a local beginner’s running club or recruit family and friends to join you. If you are more of a solitary individual, learn to enjoy the peace and solitude of a quiet run.
Local 5ks, walks, races, and fundraising events are a great way to get more involved in your community through physical fitness.
